An Iditarod-themed Magic Tree House book was finally released in January!
We always study the race and pick a musher to follow every March so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
In this chapter book, their 54th adventure (!!!), Jack and Annie are sent back to Nome, Alaska during the first Iditarod Race. Readers are introduced to the town, the race, dogsledding, and historical figures (including Balto!).
Aside from how educationally perfect this book slides right into my late winter curriculum, it was also one of the best books in the series. Sometimes, Mary Pope Osborne can get a little dry and… lengthy in the middle of her books (12 long, long, loooong chapters on soccer!?), but this one is just right in every single way. Exciting? Check. Well-written? Check. Concise? Check.
If you’re on the fence about including this one, take the plunge and just buy it!
